Sustainability Concept

Meaning of sustainability and sustainable development

The linguistic meaning of sustainability in the dictionary of Al-Sahih and Al-Munajjid, in the article “Istamidam” is “durability” meaning (perpetuity) of a thing. It lasts. And permanence. And always. He made a thing permanent. He made it permanent. The sustainability of a thing means the continuation and continuity of a thing. The concept of sustainability has appeared since the dawn of Islam with the mission of the Messenger, peace and blessings of God be upon him. In the Holy Qur’an he says Glorified be He:﴿هُوَ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَاسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ فِيهَا ﴾ [هود: 61] ، ﴿وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ﴾  [الأعراف: 129].

Because of the great status of work, the Holy Qur’an mentions it in conjunction with faith in more than seventy of its verses. Islam has encouraged work, exalted its importance and explained its importance. A life of faith without work is futile. Like the life of a tree without fruit, and if the linguistic meaning indicates a demand for the permanence of a thing... then that is impossible in this world, according to the Almighty’s saying (There is no god but Him; everything is perishing except His Face) Al-Qasabs 88, and this principle means that the essence of sustainability in this worldly life is a path to sustainability in the afterlife. Its immortality cannot be achieved without rebuilding the Earth in a way that brings benefit and goodness to us and to humanity.

In the noble Prophetic Sunnah,  the meaning is embodied in God creating man and bringing him into this life in order to achieve three things that are the essence of his existence and function on earth, which are worshiping God, building up the earth, and purifying the soul, and in that hadith on the authority of Anas bin Malik, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said And he said: (If the Hour comes and there is a shoot in the hand of one of you, then if he is able to let it not come until he plants it, then let him plant it.)  Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Bukhari. What can be learned from this great hadith is that we must know that action is not It will never cease until the Hour comes,

And since the content revolves around the same title that I am talking about and the meaning of it, which has become a famous proverb among people... where the story or story says... (It is said that Khosrau Anushirwan, king of the Persians, was walking in the suburb of his capital, and he saw an old peasant who had grown in years, and whose head had turned young. His eyes became sunken, his strength weakened, and his back arched. He was planting a cuttings, and Khosrau stood next to him, amazed by his activity. He said to him: How old have you been? He said: Eighty years. He said: Will you plant a cuttings after eighty, and when will you eat its fruit when it does not bear fruit until after a few days? Years? The farmer replied: (They planted and we ate. We plant and they eat.)

If we reflect carefully on what our true religion urges us to do in this important aspect, we will find that it has called us with all pride and pride to take care of this land and to be careful about it, to cultivate and plant it so that we can benefit from it and so that it does not become barren.. Among that is what is narrated on the authority of the Chosen Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, when he said: (What If a Muslim plants a tree or sows a seed, and a bird or a person eats from it, it will be a charity for him)... and other such other narrations that show the importance and status of agriculture in Islam and the great reward that person receives as a result of his work, and let us not forget that there is a divine guidance that calls on us all. To the necessity of reclaiming the land and the necessity of working for man, as he granted him physical health and the ability to produce, humbled the earth for him, and facilitated for him the means of reviving it and ensuring its sustainability.

From this standpoint, what I specifically wanted to focus on here is to say that we must rely on ourselves... and not be lazy about cultivating and planting the land... and do not say that our era is different from the era of our grandfathers and fathers and rely on others... as we are more deserving of cultivating our land than others. And keep its soil good and pure without any danger that threatens it or may contaminate its crops and fruits

The above is an affirmation of the divine direction and the Sunnah of the Prophet in promoting human dignity and achieving the restoration of the earth by good deeds, which is the basis of sustainable life in all areas of life.

The definition of sustainability is defined as preserving the quality of life through adapting to the environment and exploiting natural resources for the longest period of time, which helps maintain the continuation of life and the succession of its generations.

Sustainability represents human culture and behavior, and most of its issues are linked to societal awareness, which must adopt it as a way of life. Why has it become a priority in all areas of life????

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, summarized the true concept of sustainability by saying: “We give our environment the utmost attention because it is an organic part of our country, our history, and our heritage. Our fathers and grandfathers lived on this land to preserve it, and they took from it only what they needed and left “What future generations will find in it is a source and source of giving,” a saying that reflects an innate awareness of the importance of preserving resources.

The term sustainability has been used since the 1980s and was first used in the sense of human sustainability on planet Earth. This paved the way for the most common definition of sustainability and sustainable development, as it was defined by the United Nations Commission on Environment and Development on March 20, 1987: “Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present time without compromising the ability of Future generations to meet their own needs Sustainable living is essentially the application of sustainability in lifestyle choices and decisions. Only one concept of sustainable living that expresses meeting current environmental, social and economic needs without compromising on these factors for the next generation, and it has been defined as follows:

Sustainable development is that which meets the needs of the present without affecting the ability of future generations to meet their needs
